Guide to ordering a memorial online

At North East Headstones & Memorials we have a selection of memorials that are in-stock and available to buy online. This could be a good option for you if you’re unable to make it to our shop and if you don’t require a bespoke memorial. Due to the nature of headstones, the online buying process isn’t as simple as a typical online purchase. Here, we’ll describe the process to make sure you’re fully informed of the steps:

  1. After selecting a memorial on our website that you’d like to reserve, you’ll be taken to a form to enter your details.

  2. On the form we will ask for the purchaser’s contact details, and details about the memorial. Please fill in as much information as you can. You can make changes after this, so you don’t need to be 100% certain of your specification just yet.

  3. We will ask you to let us know which cemetery the memorial is to be installed in. Each cemetery may charge a fee before a new memorial can be installed. This fee often varies based on the type and size of memorial, who the memorial is for (e.g. memorials for children often incur no charge), or whether the memorial is new or a replacement for an existing one. Usually we will add any fees onto your order and pay them directly to the cemetery authority on your behalf (we do not add any extra charges for this). But some customers prefer to handle the fees themselves. Some cemeteries also have restrictions on the size and style of memorials which we will check for you.

  4. We will ask you to detail your desired inscription and any other designs/images/photos that you’d like to have included on the memorial.

  5. Once you have entered all the details and submitted the form, one of our team will review your order. We will do the following:
    - We’ll check that your chosen memorial is suitable for the cemetery and confirm any fees that may be due.
    - We’ll create your design using our masonry software, so you can get a good idea of what the finished memorial will look like.

  6. When we’ve confirmed suitability and cemetery fees, and we have created the design, we will send you an updated order form, a copy of the design, and an estimated installation date. We aim to do this within 2 working days after you submit your reservation to us. If you’d like to make any changes to the design, you are welcome to do so - we want you to be happy with your chosen inscription and design.

  7. Hopefully you’ll have found a design you like and you are now happy to formally place your order. At this point we’ll send you an invoice and ask for a deposit so that we can proceed with creating your memorial. This is typically 50% of the total order value. Payment is accepted via bank transfer, cheque, or credit or debit card (including via Google Pay and Apple Pay).

  8. As well as starting work on your memorial, we will also submit the required application forms to the cemetery authorities and pay any required fees so that we can obtain a permit from them that allows us to install your memorial. Sometimes we may need to get in touch with you with some paperwork relating to the deeds of the grave. We will guide you through this process if it is required by the cemetery authority.

  9. When we have received the permit from the authorities, and the memorial is ready to be installed, we’ll let you know when we expect to fit it (though please note this may change, for example due to inclement weather).

  10. After the memorial is fitted, the remaining balance of the order will be due.

What’s included in the price of the memorial?
